What I Believe

I was once asked by a friend’s young child what my job was, to which I replied "I'm an Art Teacher in a big school".

She looked confused for a minute then said, “That’s a shame, have they forgotten how to draw".

This summed up what happens.

When we are young we can all draw without a care, no prejudgement or comparison to reality. As we grow older we lose our confidence, and we judge and compare our creativity and our abilities against those of others. This can be soul-destroying. Comparing our work to photographs or near realistic representations that require years of practice.

I hear lots of ”But I can’t draw a straight line, or a circle!” Thing is very few people can.

It is my mission in life to use my Art Teaching skills as a catalyst, to guide others along a journey of creativity, allowing that young child’s naivety and pure pleasure of the act of drawing and lost confidence, to re-emerge and blossom.

Which then if pursued and guided can develop into a journey of wonderful discovery, creating ownership and passion but most importantly creative confidence. A confidence that can be passed on to other skills throughout life.
